When people say they’ve always dreamed of Morocco

When people in New Zealand tell me they want to visit Morocco, they often say something like: “I’ve always dreamed of going… but I don’t really know what to expect.” Very often, that dream comes with a quiet hesitation.
Morocco can feel far away and unfamiliar, especially if you’ve never travelled to a country with different customs, traditions, and rhythms of life. The unknown can feel intimidating — even when the desire to go is strong. And that feeling makes complete sense. What I’ve seen time and time again is that once people arrive, what surprises them most isn’t the colours, the architecture, or even the landscapes — it’s the warmth of the people.
